Yarning Up Premieres at the Message Sticks Film Festival
On Friday 4 July Yolngu Guya Djamamirr a short film that is part of the Yarning Up series premiered at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Message Sticks Film Festival. Yolngu Guya Djamamirr directed by Frank Djirrimbilpilwuy and produced by Penny Smallacombe tells the story of the Chooky Dancers and the story behind their acclaimed you tube hit dance Zorba the Greek Yolngu Style.
Saturday 5 July saw the premiere of Tom E Lewis’ film One River, All Rivers which was also produced by Penny Smallacombe. One River, All Rivers tells the story of Arnhemland lawman Roy Ashley Moyngumbi who receives a message from the crow spirit to stop the drainage and destruction of a local river system.
The films are part of the a series of four short films developed as part of Yarning Up which was funded by the NTFO, Top End Aboriginal Bush Broadcasting Association (TEABBA), Australian Film Commission (AFC), Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Department of Employment, Education and Training (DEET) and National Indigenous Television (NITV).
Yarning Up will be broadcast on ABC and NITV later this year.
Arista Development Workshops and One on One Meetings in Alice Springs and Darwin
On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June and Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June Stephen Cleary from Arista Development run script writing workshops in Alice Springs and Darwin. The workshops were received enthusiastically by all who attended and the NTFO is looking forward to the resulting feature film and documentary development.
Whilst in the Northern Territory Stephen also met with six individuals and teams to discuss their feature film script and provided useful and detailed feedback.
Upcoming AFTRS Short Course: After Effects Compositing
The Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) is offering Territorians the opportunity to attend a three day short course on After Effects Compositing in both Alice Springs and Darwin.
This course provides a detailed introduction to desktop compositing for moving images using Adobe After Effects - a program that allows a new level of creative freedom for designers, animators, art directors or editors.
The course will be run from Monday 11 to Wednesday 13 August 2008 in Alice Springs and from Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 August 2008 in Darwin.
The cost is $400 and applications close on Monday 28 July 2008 for Alice Springs and Monday 4 August 2008 for Darwin. To apply for this course view the AFTRS website and select Alice Springs or Darwin.
Two Territorians Selected for Arista Development Residential Workshop
Territorians Trevor Shiell and Eleanor Hogan have recently been selected to attend the Arista Development Residential Workshop being held at Freycinet, Tasmania. The intensive script development workshop is taking place from Sunday 13 July to Saturday 19 July with Arista Development’s Stephen Cleary and hosted by Screen Tasmania. Whilst at the workshop Trevor and Eleanor will be given the opportunity to further develop their projects The Sandbar Man and Stupid Old Love and move them one step closer to production.
